Spannabis Bilbao 2027 adds a B2B day after a record debut

Spannabis Bilbao will return to the Bilbao Exhibition Centre (BEC) in northern Spain from 12 to 14 March 2027, and the fair will now open a day earlier with a new professional-only B2B session on 11 March, according to Cáñamo's preview of the 2027 edition. The move follows a first Bilbao edition that drew more than 20,000 people from 25 countries and gave organisers a fresh benchmark for the event's next step.

A record Bilbao debut resets expectations

Spannabis Bilbao is not returning to the Bilbao Exhibition Centre as a routine annual booking. The 2027 plan adds a B2B day on 11 March, followed by the main fair from 12 to 14 March, and that extra Thursday is clearly intended to give the event a more defined business layer.

The first Bilbao outing was described as a record edition, with more than 400 brands represented across the hall. That scale is easier to picture on the exhibition floor:

Spannabis Bilbao's first edition filled the Bilbao Exhibition Centre with visitors and stands.

The organisation expects 2027 to build on that response, with stronger attendance and deeper professional participation than in the inaugural Bilbao edition.

A Thursday reserved for business

The new B2B session is meant to sit inside the Spannabis Bilbao ecosystem without blending into the main fair. Held in the BEC's VIP area on Thursday 11 March, it is presented as a separate professional forum with its own identity and a clear commercial purpose.

Who the B2B day is for

  • brands looking to build industry contacts
  • manufacturers
  • distributors
  • investors
  • other strategic profiles in the sector

That is a different proposition from the larger public-facing fair. The point is not to replace the weekend edition, but to create a more focused window for meetings, introductions and commercial follow-up:

The B2B forum will use the Bilbao Exhibition Centre's VIP area for professional meetings.

By separating that business layer from the main exhibition days, the format gives exhibitors and partners a place to work through the conversations that are often difficult to finish on a crowded show floor.

The first Bilbao turnout explains the expansion

The simplest way to understand the 2027 change is to set the first Bilbao edition beside the new schedule:

Those numbers show why the organiser is adding a separate business day. The Bilbao debut was not a tentative test: it already pulled in a cross-border audience, a substantial professional base and a sizeable exhibitor presence.

That footprint is easier to picture as a show floor than as a statistic alone:

The Bilbao edition drew a large crowd across the main exhibition hall.

The expansion into a B2B day follows directly from that scale. Once a fair is already bringing together thousands of attendees and hundreds of exhibitors, a separate professional session becomes easier to justify.

Bilbao becomes the fair's permanent address

Bilbao is now being treated as the event's fixed home. The Bilbao Exhibition Centre's announcement says Spannabis will return there as its permanent venue, which gives the fair a stable annual base in northern Spain after more than two decades in Catalonia.

That permanence matters because it changes the planning logic around the event. Exhibitors, partners and visitors can now work from a single city and a familiar venue, while organisers can build the B2B opening and the main fair around the same location year after year.

What 2027 is trying to build

Seen together, the 2027 plan is less a one-off addition than a clearer structure for the fair. The Thursday B2B session creates a distinct business layer, the weekend dates preserve the wider exhibition, and the record first Bilbao edition gives organisers a reason to expect further growth in both attendance and professional participation.

Spannabis Bilbao 2027 now looks set to arrive with a more segmented calendar, a clearer professional layer and a permanent home at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre, all built on the momentum of its record first Bilbao edition.
